If you're not paying attention to what is happening in the Middle East, you'd better cast your gaze that way now. A war of Biblical proportions is fast shaping up that, if it escalates much further, WILL involve the U.S., no matter how cowardly the current administration behaves (and in the end BECAUSE of how spineless our foreign policy of the last 7 years has been).
There's not a darn thing you or I can do about any of it except in how we each respond to this threat personally.
I'm seeing a lot of folks out there breathlessly following every headline, every tweet, every official pronouncement and denial. Some are offering their best militaristic talking-head analyses of what comes next.
Of course most Americans are simply in denial or absolutely ignorant of the cascading situation.
Proper Prepping
This may indeed lead to the long-feared superpower confrontation that will out of necessity go thermonuclear. No proxies lobbing hand grenades at each other ... we're talking ICBMs passing in the night, hackers taking down the grid and all communications, global terror, the plains of Armageddon filling up with blood ... and that's just in the first few minutes of the conflict.
Obviously worst case. But if you are ready for the worst, anything else will be easier.
Are you squared away?
We have no idea how much longer we might have to stock up the larder, to top off supplies. But assuming you are doing that or have done that to your satisfaction, the mindset to survive and to carry forward for the sake of your loved ones is something that no doubt could use some attention. It's pre-game. They're all suited up.
Get your game-face on.
No--it's not a game, but it's about winning. Beating the odds. Getting your team to the other side.
If this all goes bottom up, there will be no help coming when you need it the most. You and yours will be on your own.
Unless of course your faith in God and your relationship with Him through prayer are strong. In which case--you can't be in better shape. History has shown time and again that God alone will sustain folks miraculously.
But none of us are going to want to put God to that test if we have the opportunity and the resources to do our best to help Him help us.
To-date, for many of us, prepping has been about supplies and training and awareness. With the heads-up we are now getting as we see the smoke rising and spreading over the horizon, serious preppers are now steeling themselves for whatever comes next.
If this actually happens, it will be hell on earth. Resolve and personal focus will be key for any who get through it. The time is right now to start pulling that together internally.
If we all manage to escape the threat this time ... nothing lost, but maybe some additional spiritual fiber gained.
Safecastle has been helping customers prepare for crises since early 2002. We have long-standing dealership arrangements with all the top names in the preparedness industry. We have sold our customers hundreds of thousands of cans of long-term storage food. Our online store is designed to provide you with a safe and secure environment to browse our product offerings.

Mountain House Foods a Huge Hit with Boy Scouts and Parents!
![]() |
Rehydrating and eating right from the pouch |
This weekend we heard back from a leader who was at a Camporee where they served six different varieties to the boys and to the many parents who were also in attendance.
Some of them knew what they had there, but apparently most were first-time MH consumers and they were absolutely "astounded" at how tasty the foods were. Not a small feat when you are talking about kids especially.

Pasta Primavera was the only variety left after the weekend ... some of the kids were turned off by the veggies in that entrée.
We're proud to be long-time supporters of Boy Scouts of America. Be Prepared!

HUGE Mountain House Sale Ends Sept. 30 ... Yes, we still have it in stock--prompt free shipping!
Have you been snoozing? If so, you can at least be comforted to know that plenty of others have been asleep as well.
However, a record number of storage-food buyers HAVE been inundating sellers such as Safecastle over the last two months. So much so that major storage food producers are going out of stock and have been unable to even come close to replenishing the shelves of their dealers.
Mountain House is the gold standard of emergency storage food--50 years in business, their freeze dried foods continually judged the best tasting, and relied upon by US government and military agencies for decades as well as by consumers! Did I mention that their cans of food last for 30 years when stored in reasonable conditions?
Well--no surprise then that Mountain House has been the number one target for buyers looking to shore up their own preparedness situation in the last two months.
Why now? The list is long and the threats are many ... suffice it to say, it's time!
MH Factory Has No Food Left
Bottom line--the Mountain House factory is 95%-out of stock. This has only happened once before during a time of major crisis.
The good news--at Safecastle we saw it coming and bought as much inventory as we could. So we still have a good amount of the best storage food in the world, in stock, ready for prompt shipping.
And the better news--it is still on sale at up to 38% off! (It also ships free!)
This is your wake-up call. Time to get it done.

"Panic" Buying Expanding Throughout Preparedness Markets
We've been keeping you advised of this burgeoning situation for almost two months now. As a result many of you have stayed ahead of the curve.
Today, we're deep into a spreading panic among those prepping for imminent crises. The most popular brands and varieties of storage foods are out of stock and backordered most anywhere you look. Note that this situation is also now spreading to crucial survival-related products such as Berkey water filters.
The Good News
We know what we're doing at Safecastle, having been around this block many times before. We recognized the signs very early on this year and started a bit of focused buying ourselves to make sure we could help you through this situation. So while many other sellers are selling you long-backordered product, we've still got key product inventories in our warehouses. Maybe not a lot of each variety, but enough to get you squared away of you do not delay any longer.
For instance, we do still have about two-thirds of the Mountain House freeze dried catalog in stock for prompt shipping.
Red Feather canned butter and Bega canned cheese are about to disappear from U.S. markets. The North American distributor sold us their last pallets of those two very popular items and they don't expect to get resupplied from overseas for several months. (Apparently, this buying surge is taking place around the world.) Our butter inventory was depleted earlier today but we have that last shipment coming in and if you get your order in, you'll be in the queue for those dwindling can-cases. (And yes--they are still on sale at unbeatable pricing!) We expect that shipment in within two weeks. We do still have the cheese available for prompt shipping.
Yoders canned bacon--we still have some in stock for prompt shipping. It is out of stock most other places for at least the next few weeks.
Berkey water filters ... the N. American distributor is running out of stock of several Berkey models. We have inventory of several models ... if they are listed in our store, we have them available for fast shipping.
Many other storage food brands that we are selling are drop-shipped from their producer warehouses. The word on most of them is that they are shipping about three or more weeks out due to growing piles of orders that are coming in.
All food producers are dealing with amped-up demand, but they are also struggling to purchase raw ingredients for their products. Eggs remain the biggest challenge, with most factories unable to secure enough for production runs, and that is expected to remain the case for several more months.
Bottom Line
No surprise if you have been paying attention, but here is our take ... just as with the overall economy and geopolitical situation out there, we're on the edge in the crisis preparedness marketplace.
But where much of the economy is dragging, those who are stepping up their preparedness efforts are stressing our suppliers to the breaking point at the opposite end of spectrum. Many will say, that's not a bad thing.
The danger is that we are one big-picture push away from having the whole thing go tumbling down the slope. We've seen it before--sellers are unable to get inventory, producers are unable to get enough material and food for production runs. We're at max capacity right now ... if any number of new more preparedness buyers flood into the market, that will be it.
Upfront about the Situation
We prefer to make sure our own longtime customers are well situated for what is happening. We're upfront with you about what we are seeing so that you have as many facts available for your own consideration as to what you may want to do as a result.
Stay safe.

Canned Butter and Cheese Out of Stock for Months at N. American Distributor (We still have some on sale!)
On Friday, Sept. 18, we were advised by the distributor for Red Feather Butter and Bega Cheese that they are completely out of stock now due to the ongoing panic buying of storage food. It will several months before they will be able to restock.
The good news is that we were on top of the situation, saw it coming, and bought as much inventory as was available. What we have will go fast.
You have been warned.

Good: Freeze Dried Hamburger Patties Now Available! Bad: Canned Butter and Cheese Almost Gone in North America
![]() |
Freeze dried hamburger patties, 2015 production--25 year shelf life |
Bad news first--Right after sending out the email linked above, we got word that the North American distributor for Bega canned cheese and Red Feather butter is out of stock and won't be able to get more for months due to the worldwide buying surge of storable foods. We still have some in inventory and we are keeping our lowest-anywhere prices right where they are. Act fast--our inventory will be depleted soon.
Good news--Freeze Dried Hamburger Patties are now available! They are normally hard to get and in the midst of the current deluge of storage food buying, it is quite a blessing.
We've been waiting on these, and I know a lot of you have been as well. Don't know how long they'll last, as they are very popular and not too easy to locate--especially recent production like these (July 2015). We're selling them by the case (six #10 cans) or by the can.
While we're at it, we also have some excellent 2015 Chicken Patties.
These meat patties are good for decades on the shelf. Just imagine how valuable these could be down the road!

BIG LONG-TERM STORAGE FOOD SALE ENDS TONIGHT, 9/12: Yoders and Future Essentials
Mountain House and Other Storage Food Brands Dwindling!
ALL Storage Food Producers Struggling with Demand Now
Mountain House leads the way in the storage food marketplace. They continue to be swamped with new orders and growing product backlogs. Now we have officially heard from all our other many food suppliers and they too are experiencing the very same issues--some becoming very serious.
The dominoes continue to fall.
Most concerning is these companies' inability to procure food in sufficient quantities to face up to the demand out there. It's becoming a major issue and one that is also beginning to impact grocery brands as well.
This whole situation is not going to improve anytime soon, and we believe it's going to continue to get much worse. Still the positive news--we continue to have stock of many MH food varieties and we can still ship other brands to you. Don't delay any further.

Win $20 gift certificates for your best original Apocalimericks during Preparedness Month!
September 2015 is not only Preparedness month, but it is said it's going to be a barn-burner, so to speak. Let's make sure we have a little fun as the heat starts to get turned up, shall we?
It's been a couple of years or more since we last did this, so maybe we can wring out some fresh verse. (See the winners from 2013 farther below on the linked page.)
We're going to award a $20 Safecastle gift certificate to the author of every original Apocalimerick we post to our store site. Be creative, keep it reasonably clean, and make sure it's about prepping or zombies or existential crises, etc. We'll commit to awarding at least one gift certificate a week through September (don't make us regret that). Hopefully we'll find more than one submission a week worthy of one of these coveted awards.
Our selections will be based solely on what makes us here at Safecastle laugh. One entry per week per person (Sunday thru Saturday. Note that Sept. 5 is the first week's deadline; Sept. 26 is the last week's deadline). Two gift certificates per winner thru the contest period is our limit.
Check our page for past winners and more info: http://www.safecastle.com/apocalimericks.aspx
NOTE: Submissions must be original. That means if you post it somewhere before the contest is over and we do a search and find it, it won't be considered for a prize and publication on our winners page.

Storage Food Flying Off the Shelves: Yoders, Future Essentials, Mountain House ON SALE!
With the extreme demand for premium long-term storage food such as it is, we have to call in some favors to get special deals right now with most of our suppliers. (Some customers have asked why the great deal on MH food during this time of unprecedented demand. Well, the offer for special discounts to dealers was made several weeks ago before MH management realized what was coming. Their loss, your gain.)
So today, after sharpening our pencil and twisting an arm or two, we can make these offers:

Confusion? -- Safecastle prices vs. others'

I just got this email from a customer who purchased a lifetime buyers club membership. He was irate after totally misreading how our listings are laid out and thought our prices were not what he expected. I figure if he misread them then maybe others are misreading them also.
So, to perhaps help point out where things actually stand, here is that little email dialog. It is actually pretty telling about the bargains we offer our members ...
New Safecastle club member:
"Yeah, so I took the bait....
"I purchased the lifetime membership for $49 and started shopping. But before I put things in the cart, I thought I'd best compare.
"MH Diced Beef on sale for $419, works out to $69 per can "on sale" with the little fire logo. When I did a quick search, I found The Ready Store has it for $55, and Emergency Essentials has it for $50. A $19 /can difference.
"Your EverSafe MREs 12 pack case is $110, but Amazon has it for $74, and Charlie Surplus for $85. $25 - $36 savings over your sale price? Shipping can't be $25.
"MH Green Beans, #10 can comes to $24 on sale. The Ready Store is $20 and Nitro-Pak is $19.
"I'm confused. If you are running a big sale, how is it that 3 random products are so far overpriced beyond normal competition that it isn't even close?
"Emergency Essentials ships for $12 total on orders over $120. That's easy to do, so shipping free in comparison doesn't seem to be a selling point. Ready Made Resources uses actual shipping, but the base prices are good. And Nitro-Pak is free over $249, again, another easy figure to reach when stocking up.
"Am I missing something here? Are there additional savings I'm not seeing? I'm very close to asking for a membership refund. Give me something to grab on to, here..."
Vic, Safecastle founder:
"Randy--it looks like you are misreading our listings ...
"First off--everything always ships free.
"MH Diced Beef, case of 6 cans=$272.96 (the $419.94 price is the MSRP) We don't sell single cans but breaking it down for you, it comes out to $45.49, shipping included. Not only that, our members are enjoying this year's points program that essentially is worth 5% back on all purchases.
"MH Green Beans case=$97.46 ... broken down to $16.24 per can, shipped.
"Eversafe MREs case, $71 shipped.
"Looks like we soundly beat every example you listed, but we do guarantee low prices on MH food anytime. If you happen to find a price lower out there, we'll beat it and you'll still be able to apply that purchase to the point program. ;-) "
* NOTE: I can't spend a lot of time searching out other sellers' prices and I'm sure that there are a few lower prices on some things that can be found somewhere from time to time. We're not Wal-mart, we are a very small business that tries to give our customers and members the best deal we can swing.
I just thought I'd share this little dialog. I don't intend to spend more time looking at prices and responding here ... we are absolutely swamped with orders. I had to do so with this customer obviously, and as long as I did, thought someone else might find it useful here in understanding how our listings should read.

Mountain House Running Out of Stock - Situation has signs of "exploding" the prepper world
Just got the word from Mountain House ... and I was wondering if this was going to manifest, so I am not surprised. They are quickly running out of stock of several of their food varieties due to a sudden surge in demand.
This is a huge heads up ... it's a bit of a long, involved backstory that I won't go into detail about here, but as a reminder--some of you might recall the situation several years ago when MH had backorders stretching out 6 months, and customers were pleased just to get on the list.
That situation had far reaching ramifications in the prepper world for virtually anyone even remotely connected. It even led to the WalMarts and Costcos getting into the preparedness market niche, and the birth of several storage food companies.
I know ... we were right in the middle of all of it and it changed a good many things about how we do business.
That's what this today is fast beginning to smell like.
MH greatly expanded their production capacity since that time, and they were already the leading prep-food company in the world before that little crisis after Hurricane Katrina. They thought they were in position to deal with any similar situation that would again come around. Looks like they are going to find out the hard way if that is the case.
I'm betting that they may do a little better this time, but for the near term, we're about to see a situation where it is going to be increasingly difficult to lay hands on any type of storage food out there--especially Mountain House.
So consider yourself warned--this may very well be a last call to lay in your favorite foods before your backorder wait starts being measured in months.
(As luck would have it--we ARE in the midst of one of our biggest MH sales ever. Those huge discounts are not changing at this time.)

Preppers Shipping Advisory ... Want it by September 10?
We've been asked, and we fully understand the concern many might be having at this point ...
September of this year is full of question marks and red letter dates for preppers. It seems most of those dates occur after about Sept. 10.
So if you are looking for your Safecastle order to arrive by about September 10--please try to place your order by the end of August. That gives us and our suppliers and the shippers adequate time to process your order.
(There are exceptions--such as SurvivalCave meats, which sometimes require up to two weeks to deliver.)
Bottom line: we're fully on-board with the sense of urgency--please place your orders as early as possible. This month is already hugely busy and if it gets any more so as we get closer to September, supply inventories can be affected.
